Quill
Quill collects nothing. There is no account, no server run by us, no analytics and no advertising. We never see what you write. This page explains where your entries are stored, how to remove them, and what rights you have if you live in the European Union, the EEA or the United Kingdom.
Your entries, photos, tags and moods are stored in a database on your iPhone. If iCloud backup is on, Apple's CloudKit mirrors that database into your private iCloud database — a space tied to your Apple ID that only your devices can read. We have no access to it and no way to get any. Turn it off in iPhone Settings › [your name] › iCloud.
Your PIN is never stored. Quill keeps a salted hash of it in the iOS Keychain on this device only; it does not sync. The recovery code is stored the same way.
Place and weather are optional and off by default. When on, Quill asks iOS for your approximate location once per new entry, turns it into a town name and a short weather line, stores both in that entry, and discards the coordinates. Nothing is sent to us. Weather comes from Apple's WeatherKit service, which receives the location for that request under Apple's own privacy terms.
Photos you add to an entry are copied into the entry at a reduced size. If you turn on the photo count in the daily reminder, Quill reads how many photos you took today; it never uploads or copies them.
Articles you paste. If you paste a web article into an entry, Quill fetches the pictures that article points to, so they can be kept alongside your words. Those requests go straight from your iPhone to the addresses written in the article — so the servers holding those pictures see your IP address, exactly as they would if you opened the page in a browser. This is the only network request Quill ever makes, you are the one who starts it, and nothing about it reaches us.
Imports from Day One, Apple Journal, Markdown or text files are read on the device and stored like any other entry.
Quill Pro is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple's App Store. Apple tells the app whether the purchase exists; Apple's own privacy policy covers the payment.
Settings › Delete all data removes every entry and photo from the iPhone and from your iCloud database. Deleting the app removes everything on the phone. Your iCloud copy can also be removed from iPhone Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Storage.
Quill is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal data from anyone.
Who is responsible. Quill is published by PrimeTruth Team, an individual developer based in Vietnam, reachable at zenDesign219@gmail.com. Because Quill has no server of ours, your entries never travel to us: we cannot read them, copy them, hand them over or restore them for you.
What we actually process. The only personal data that ever reaches us is what you choose to put in an email to us — your address and whatever you write in it. We use it to answer you and keep it only as long as that takes. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in replying to the people who write to us (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Your diary itself has no legal basis to speak of, because we never receive it; it lives on your device and, if you switch iCloud on, in your own Apple account under Apple's terms.
Your rights. You may ask us for access to the data we hold about you, for it to be corrected or deleted, for its processing to be restricted, for a copy in a portable form, and you may object to that processing. Write to the address above and we will answer within one month. For your entries themselves you do not need us at all, and acting yourself is faster: Settings › Delete all data erases them from the phone and from your iCloud database at once.
Complaints. If you think we have handled your data badly, you may lodge a complaint with the data protection authority of the EU or EEA country where you live or work, or with the Information Commissioner's Office in the United Kingdom.
We transfer nothing, because we receive nothing. If you write to us, your email reaches a mailbox we hold in Vietnam. Everything else — the App Store, iCloud, WeatherKit — is operated by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy and Apple's own transfer safeguards, not ours.
