Quill is a private diary for iPhone built on one architectural promise: there is no server, so there is no company that could read your entries — including the one that made it. It locks with a four-digit PIN and Face ID, covers its preview in the App Switcher, and lets you back in with a recovery code if you forget the PIN. Writing is plain and quick: bold, italic, bullets, up to twenty photos an entry, a mood in words, tags, and a draft that saves as you type. Full-text search runs on the device in milliseconds; a month calendar shows the days you wrote; On this day brings back the same date from earlier years. Old diaries come over from Day One, Apple Journal, Markdown, plain text or CSV — with a preview before anything is written and no duplicates on a second import. Everything exports again to PDF, to a book with a cover and contents, or to Markdown with photos. Backup goes through your own private iCloud database, not ours. Quill Pro — more photos, reading fonts, more notebooks, a widget, advanced filters, place and weather — is a single one-time purchase; the lock, backup, import, export and search are free and always will be. Built by one person with an AI agent in about ten days — the rules file the agent follows is longer than most of the app.

Import from Day One without duplicates was the hardest feature to get right; the export format now carries its own IDs so a re-import is a no-op.
